A No Good Very Bad Week 04Apr11
“I went to sleep with gum in my mouth, and now there’s gum in my hair. And when I got out of bed this morning, I tripped on the skateboard, and by mistake I dropped my sweater in the sink while the water was running. And I could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.” – Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day.
Have you ever had one of those days? I have been having one of those terrible horrible no good very bad weeks. My first word to describe how things have been going is “fail,” but then the book title came into my head, and that also fit perfectly. I know little Alexander is taught that you go to sleep and tomorrow is a new day…but sometimes it is just so hard to believe. I have been having, what I call, fails. I had a shopping fail (meaning I couldn’t find the dress I was looking to buy), I had a shoe fail (I couldn’t find the shoes I was looking to buy), I had a work fail (we hired someone new and since he ranks above me he got my office and I got moved to a cube), I had a date fail (I planned a night out and we had to rearrange the plan because I had a work event I had to go to), I had a baking fail (my cupcakes sank in the center), I had a cooking fail (my mashed cauliflower wouldn’t mash), and last but not least I had a Bikram Yoga fail (we tried to race to get to the 6pm class, and we were too late). All of this in one week. I know I will wake up and everything will be great; and don’t get me wrong, I know I have great things in life that I appreciate, but it is very difficult not to feel the “fail” or the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week.
So, I did the best thing I knew to do…I went to the gym. I worked off 500 calories in less than an hour. I watched Law and Order to keep me going on the stairstepper and the bike. My friend also had her own temporary cure for me; she had downloaded a farting app on her cell phone.
I know it’s childish, but something about farting and burping sounds always makes me laugh. So seriously, if you’re having a bad day (or bad week), or if someone you know is having a tough time, make sure to have your Burp Master Keychain on you to cheer things up. It might be temporary but it’s totally worth the smile and the laugh.
I hope your week is much better than mine! And if it’s not, you’re not alone. Share your fails with me!
